This is one to really watch, long term. Apparently, we can expect Trump to OK a bump stock ban, and within 90 days of this going into effect, you either have to turn in or destroy your bump stocks.
I say to keep a hard eye on this one because it could spark more gun control talk and on a much more serious level. Why?
Because how in the hell is the government going to enforce this? Bump stocks were always purchasable the same way any other stock was - you take it off the counter or order it online and go your merry way. There's no paperwork involved. There's no database. There's no registration. We have no idea who has these things.
And once this law goes into effect, I expect this will become the spotlight. We have no idea who decided not to turn in or destroy their bump stocks because they weren't registered. And now, because so many in the political class are talking about "assault weapons" bans, obviously we need to discuss a gun registration so that when gun bans are enacted we know who didn't turn in their weapons. Let this be a lesson to us all! Gun registration is a must!
So keep an eye on this one. I suspect it will become a gateway into talks about more widespread gun control that won't solve any problems.
