Let's Get Serious About 2018

1/17/2018

Comments

Republicans are staring down the barrel of an electoral gun in 2018. The average midterm election loss for the party of the president is 25 House seats. Republicans cannot lose 24 seats, or they lose the majority. Right now, over 30 Republicans have announced they’re leaving their seats, either to retire or run for a different office. That’s a solid number of open seats — and that number is likely to grow.

As you are well aware, we are in an election year, the mid-terms to be exact. As stated above, 30 Republicans have decided to take their ball and go home instead of standing up for their beliefs, standing up for their constituents, or standing up for the country.

You aren't going to like some of what I am going to say here, but it needs to be said. We need to start getting real here.

The media is hammering the heck out of Trump on everything, and it really doesn't matter if what they are saying is true or not. They could be making up half the stories they are reporting, but it doesn't matter. The general public doesn't research or ask questions. They hear their favorite media talking head or reporter say something, accept it as true, and move on.

Trump's poll numbers are terrible everywhere. And we can sit back and say things like, "Those same polls said Hillary was going to win" until we are blue in the face. Just because they failed in 2016, doesn't mean they will fail in 2018.

The American people have this odd tendency to vote back and forth. The democrats are doing a bad job, let's vote republican. The republicans are doing a bad job, let's vote democrat. The democrats are doing a bad job, let's vote republican. See the pattern? Now, I, personally, would love to see a viable third party move to the forefront. But if we're being real, that isn't going to happen anytime soon. Every time a third party has had a shot at it, they've blown it horribly.

But what this pattern tells us is that people aren't paying attention to policy. They aren't looking in to what the democrats want to do to the country. They don't see what the republicans want to do. All they see is what they are being told. And no amount of yelling about waking up the masses is actually going to change that. Those people aren't reading pages like this, because in order to find pages like this, you have to be looking for the information. They aren't. And they most likely won't.

The cries of racist from the left - and the fact that literally everything is racist now - are going to work over these people. Even the most recent comments - the sh*thole comments - are being argued about, some saying it happened and some saying it didn't. But it is being reported as if he said it on TV and everyone heard him - it's an undisputed fact that he said it. And most Americans believe it is an undisputed fact. They also believe the comments were racist - because everything is. They don't understand the concept of why we don't want lotteries for immigration or why we would prefer to be a little choosier about who comes here. No. This is racist only. Because that's what they were told.

Is this going to play a roll in 2018?

Yes.

Could the republicans lose at least some control?

Yes.

Is Trump to blame?

Partly.

No, I don't lay the blame completely on Trump. I don't lay it completely on the media, either. And I don't lay it completely on our reps.

The blame can be distributed among all three groups. Trump needs to think before he speaks or tweets. The media has a bias that is so horrible they are almost at tabloid levels instead of actual working, researching, probing journalists. And our reps... they gave Obama almost everything he wanted, even though they were voted in to cut the flow of government overreach. And they hate Trump. So they aren't working with him. They aren't helping him. They aren't teaching him. They are taking their ball and going home, even if the price is giving up freedoms and opening our borders to whoever wants to come in at any time for any reason and stay for however long, completely unchecked. They would rather capitulate to the democrats, even though the people voted for less democrats than republicans.

The country is divided. Trump is blamed. This has been bad for a long time, but the people see it only as the fault of Trump. The economy is good. That is because of Obama. The economy was awful while he was in office, our credit dropped, our debt went through the roof, and we had no growth, but as soon as he leaves office, his real work suddenly kicked in! Economists don't agree, but it doesn't matter, because the average American voter won't hear about it.

The average American voter is hearing nothing but  horrible news about Trump. And let's be real, he's not the most well spoken or eloquent guy. He's doing a lot to hurt himself, and the media is running with it. Sure, they blow a lot of it out of proportion, but he's giving them the foundation for it. The media rarely reports good news about Trump, and when they have good news that needs to be reported, they try to make sure to leave Trump out of it.

The bottom line is this. We need middle of the road and right leaning people elected. Not extremists. Not leftists.  But right leaning and middle of the road. If the democrats - who are getting more and more extreme left as each day passes - get into office, nothing will get done. They will push for extreme socialist policies, Trump won't go along with a lot of them, and we'll stagnate. We already know the democrats are far less willing to work with Trump than the republicans are.  And, honestly, that will leave Trump extremely vulnerable in 2020. Here you have free stuff being waved around and Trump saying no, and a government that is accomplishing nothing. At which point you can expect people like Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Joe Biden to come out strong, and the country can't afford any of those people.

This is going to be a rough year. We all need to get active. We need to get good candidates to run for those slots being vacated by the cowards who won't stand up for anything, and we need to get them elected. We need to get more leftists out of government, not allow more in. We're dealing with a generation that is demanding socialism. That's really scary. We're not just discussing the loss of Constitutional and God given rights. We're talking about our entire way of life. So push for good candidates, get people involved, and vote. We're the only thing standing in the way of extreme leftists and their terrifying agenda. Draining the swamp is our responsibility. Now is the time to stop making excuses and lying to yourself. Now is the time to get to work and drain that swamp yourself.
