Jewish Americans Flock to Firearms Training in Wake of Synagogue Attack

11/2/2018

Editor's Note: If you're in NC, either I'll go to the range with you (I am not a professionally trained or licensed instructor) or I can recommend some places to get professional training. Feel free to contact me. This goes for anyone, regardless of religion, race, sexual orientation, etc.

If you are outside of NC, I recommend checking out Operation Blazing Sword. They have opened services to those outside the LGBTQ community as well. I will say... don't just buy a gun and stick it in a drawer. Learn how to use it.

Jewish Americans are flocking to firearms training in the wake of the October 27 attack on Tree of Life Synagogue that killed 11 people.

For example, Haaretz reports that the Cherev Gidon Israeli Tactical Defense Academy near Scranton, Pennsylvania, is witnessing the highest demand for training it has ever seen.

Yonatan Stern, “a veteran officer of the Israel Defense Forces and director of the academy,” reminds his Scranton, Pennsylvania, classes: “The fact is, we’re at war. We want Jews everywhere to be armed.”

Stern indicates that “hundreds” of people interested in firearms training contacted him during the three days after the Pittsburgh attack. He observed that “all but three or four” of them were Jewish.

And while there are some members of the Jewish community pushing back against the idea of using guns to keep synagogues safe, Stern notes, “To wait for law enforcement to arrive simply is not the answer.”

Zev Guttman was afraid of guns until Saturday’s attack, but now he chooses to be armed. He said, “Everybody has to find a way to react; this is my way.”

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy Introduces Bill to De-Fund Corporate Gun Control

Since Parkland, the anti-gun left has enlisted the help of corporate America to do what they haven’t been able to accomplish through federal legislation or the courts – squeeze the NRA and the gun industry. We’ve seen car rental companies, airlines, cybersecurity companiesand even cooler makers drop their affiliate deals with the NRA.

What’s more, thanks to the efforts of Governor Soprano and his Empire State regulatory agencies, banks and insurance companies have also been pressured into dumping their business relationships with the NRA and stop lending to firearms manufacturers.

Now, one US Senator wants to do something about that where banks are concerned.

In response to banking institutions that have imposed policies against business related to the firearms industry in the wake of  the deadly school shooting in Florida earlier in the year, Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy proposed legislation prior the recess that would prohibit the federal government from granting contracts to banks that discriminate against lawful businesses and based only on social policy considerations.

Trump says ban on 'bump stocks' coming

President Donald Trump suggested Monday, one year after the Las Vegas massacre, that bump-fire stocks would be banned "over the next couple of weeks."

Trump was asked at a Rose Garden news conference about the progress of regulations to eliminate the devices, which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at a more rapid rate.

"In order to eliminate -- terminate -- bump stocks, we have to go through procedure. We are now at the final stages of that procedure," he said.

"We are knocking out bump stocks. I have told the (National Rifle Association) -- bump stocks are gone. But to do that, you have to go to public hearings, which we have had. You have to go through all sorts of regulatory control systems."

Trump added that the process should be wrapped up in "two or three weeks."

LA Passes Ordinance Requiring City Contractors To Disclose NRA Ties

10/12/2018

City contractors who have ties to the National Rifle Association must now disclose them, under a motion passed unanimously Wednesday by the Los Angeles City Council.

The motion, approved by a 10-0 vote, does not ban NRA-linked contractors from doing business with the city, but would require them to disclose any contracts or sponsorships they have with the gun rights advocacy group.

The NRA did not immediately responded to a request for comment.

The vote on the NRA motion, which was written by Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, directs the city attorney to draft an ordinance outlining the new disclosure rules, which will need to be voted on by the City Council.

“For the sake of transparency, the city’s residents and stakeholders deserve to know how the city’s public funds are being spent, and whether taxpayer funds are being spent on contractors that have contractual or sponsorship ties with the NRA,” the motion states.

*Editor's Note: Why only the NRA, then? Don't all those same people deserve to know what other ties any contractors might have?
